Faaborg-Svelmø-Avernakø-Bjørnø-Faaborg (28 km)

A challenging route around three of the small islands. Enjoy the rich birdlife on the water, go ashore and experience the special island ambience. Start from Faaborg Harbour and paddle south-east along the coast to the tip of Svelmø. From here, continue south to the east coast of Avernakø. Paddle along the north coast of the island – if weather conditions permit – and then from the ferry harbour, head north to the south-east tip of Bjørnø where you will encounter almost perfect fjord idyll. Continue south and east round Bjørnø, cross the water to Dyreborg, paddle alongside Katterød Reef and then head north again to Faaborg.

Car park/starting point: Faaborg Harbour / Kanalvej 1, The pontoon bridge by Faaborg Kajakhavn, 5600 Faaborg.

Difficulty: hard. Pay special attention when crossing the water between Svelmø and Avernakø, and on the stretch between Avernakø and Bjørnø. Stay close to the coast around Avernakø. Much of this route is across deep water.

Show consideration: Do not go ashore on Lille Svelmø and keep away from the reef off the eastern tip of Bjørnø.
